The homestead has been an ever evolving process of learning, unlearn, trial and error. Our next shift is toward collecting and propagating as many native plants as possible. To position yourself in service to nature means making sure your needs and the needs of the environment are in harmony as often as possible.

When we want fruit trees, we seek out the ones that will perform naturally in our zone and soil, so we don’t need chemicals to help it survive. When we want flowers we find the native varieties. Not only are they just as attractive, they’re invaluable to the whole ecosystem.

We learn as we go. The better we know, the better we do.
